Mike's Inside Tips!

Here's some common questions, and my tips on how to fix or get around them:

Q: My game screen didn't entirely download, what now?

A: Just refresh the page, usually this is caused by a bad download of the Java applet, so refreshing will get you a new copy. If that fails, clear your browser cache (check the help system for info on how to do this) and that should clear up the problem.

Q: Why do you always tell me to clear my cache?

A: Your browser's cache holds copies of files you download from the internet, for example, the Uproar logo at the top of this page. This is usually a good thing, as it save time since you don't have to download that graphic again. However, if you download a partial graphic for, say, the background of Cosmo, your browser will use it again and again until it's cache is cleared. This doesn't always happen, but when it does, the only solution is to clear the cache.

Q: What hardware and software should I use for best performance?

A: Both our programmers and players recommend the following or better for best performance:

  1. A Pentium processor
  2. 32 MB of RAM
  3. A 28.8 modem
  4. Windows 95
  5. Internet Explorer (recommended) or Netscape Navigator version 3.02 or higher

You'll probably be able to play with other configurations, but you'll also probably see errors or other issues caused by those setups.

Q: I have a Mac, now what?

A: Unfortunately, the MacOS system isn't very Java friendly. You can play all of the ShockWave games, BingoBlitz, and the Mental State games though, so come and have fun!

Q: I can't see the whole game screen!

A: You're monitor is most likely set at 640x480 resolution. All you'll need to do is consult Windows Help to find out how to change your monitor settings to 800x600 and you'll see the whole screen.

Q: I have WebTV, now what?

A: Well, WebTV doesn't support Java or ShockWave, so you can only play our Mental State games, but they're still a bunch of fun, and also have prizes for the winners, so come play!

Q: Why don't I get prize passes?

A: One of two reasons. First off, think back to when you registered. Did you tell us you were under 18 (or pick the first thing in the listbox)? Then you can't get passes. Also if you live in certain parts of Canada, you can't compete in online contests. In both cases, you may still play for fun, just not for prizes, so no prize passes for you.
